Desert Heat: Week ONE
Tempe, Arizona -- After a 14 - 0 score near the end of the first quarter, Arizona Cardinals' fans believed that their team would run away with the season opener against the Carolina Panthers. Unfortunately, things didn't end as well as they began for the home team in the desert.
The momentum of the game took a turn near the end of the first quarter when Quarterback Kevin Kolb threw his 1st of 3 interceptions. This one, to Carolina's Captain Munnerlyn, who returned it 27 yards for a touchdown. From there, the Cardinals never recovered, failing to score the rest of the game, while surrendering 31 unanswered points.
Defensively, the Cardinals were abysmal, giving up 278 total yards. While they held Cam Newton in check, the front seven could not stop the late game rushes. Most of those previously mentioned rushes coming from DeAngelo Williams, who owned the 4th quarter, while scampering for 137 yards and 2 touchdowns on 19 carries. "We couldn't buy a stop late in the game," veteran Defensive Lineman Darnell Dockett exclaimed. "If we want to be a team to be reckoned with, it starts up front. We have to set the tone. This performance was sorry. Just sorry."
GM BigJohnMic was very frank with the media after the game. "I thought that we had the talent to execute our gameplan. Obviously, I've been proven wrong." JMic went on, "We'll be in a constant state of evaluation. From talent to playbook, we'll figure out what needs improving and go from there. Finding a way to get the ball in our playmakers' hands is going to be key."
Next for KLC and the Carolina Panthers (1-0) will host the TheDarkKnight and the Green Bay Packers (1-0). The Arizona Cardinals (0-1) will look to bounce back from a devastating loss when they visit Harrill and the Washington Redskins (0-1)
