    FA Proposal

    Post by BigJohnMic on November 9th 2011, 4:12 am

    Yet again, another late night on the AIM Blast yields interesting discussion. We have a proposal for the Free Agency Period, which was introduced to us by Yoyo), and it got generally good reviews from those who were on the Blast. According to sources, under the previous FA guidelines, putting an age limit on who could be dropped was essentially punishing those who had young teams -- making them drop good players who were in their prime. In this proposal, there are no age requirements. Without further ado, here is the Proposal:

    Every team must drop 5 total players.
    Tier 3 teams (Playoff bye teams): Must drop 2 80+ overall players (K/Ps don't count) in addition to 3 players of your choice.

    Tier 2 teams (Playoff teams): Must drop 1 80+ overall player and 1 75+ overall player (K/Ps don't count) in addition to 3 players of your choice.

    Tier 1 teams (non playoff teams): Must drop 2 75+ overall players (K/Ps don't count) in addition to 3 players of your choice. Tier 1 teams include everyone else (non-playoff teams).

    * 1 85+ overall player is equal to 2 80-84 overall players.
    * 2 75-79 overall players is equal to 1 80+ player

    What do ya think? Post below, and let us know. Thanks.

    Got my vote. All for balance in the league.

    This is a better FA way of doing it because talent starved teams wont be forced to give up their young talents that are rated higher than their whole team combined.

    I like it. So that we don't have a poll ful of fullbacks....should we make FB's -5 of what their overall is?

    Sounds good...

    I like that it is cut and dry and the offseason should be rather quick. Lets get to season 2 asap.

    I feel like FB should be in the same class as K/P, in terms of they can't be cut under the OVR rating requirements. What do you guys think?

    Actually the more I think about this in my other league, OGML, this is the free agent system they have adopted. It has been in use since the league's inception back at the beginning of Madden 11. With this formula they crafted, even with some of the teams with the higher player ratings across the board, no one team has really been forced to cut anyone over an 80 OVR. They also do not have age restrictions. Check it out below:

    The formula is quite simple: Add your TOP 20 overall players (excluding P, K, and FB). Once you have that number, subtract 100, then divide by 20.

    **If you had retirements, you are NOT required to drop 5 additional players. Example: Dallas had 5 players retire, therefore, he only has to drop 2 players total (the minimum requirement cuts)**

    The reason for dropping these players is rather simple; it makes way for rookies on your roster, plus gives everyone a chance at that top FA to help fill a void they missed out on during the draft.

    *** Kickers, Punters, Fullbacks can be dropped as your FA drops, however, if you do chose to drop them, they are penalized.

    Kickers & Punters are automatically deducted 10 OVR
    Fullbacks automatically deducted 5 OVR
    Example: Zoltan Mesko P, 90 OVR loses 10 points from OVR. He would only be an 80 OVR drop.

    Ok, just did the math for this proposal for my team. OVR total from my top 20 players excluding (K,P,FB) was 1,633.
    #1 Player: L. Fitzgerald (96)
    #20 Player: L. Sendlein (76)
    1,633 - 100 = 1,533
    1,533/20 = 76.65

    I'm not exactly sure how I feel about this idea, but I figured I'd give everyone an example of how the numbers worked out.
